Dear Students, Families, Faculty, and Staff: I am writing to you today to share important information regarding the spring semester of 2022. Due to the increasing number of cases of COVID-19, the rapid spread of the omicron strain, and warnings from public health officials. the first three weeks of January will be very difficult. As a result of this operation, the University will delay the start of the spring semester by one week. . Private lessons now start in January. 24. Spring break will continue as previously scheduled: March 13-20. I’m looking forward to the spring semester because we’ve done this before. Syracuse University managed three semesters of teaching successfully and efficiently during the pandemic. The conditions were different in each semester. Every semester, the courage of our Orange team does not change. Each semester, we made decisions based on science and best clinical practice. I’m sure we can do it again. The difference this coming semester is that we have booster shots that are proven to be safe and effective. Immunizations were essential for us to have a strong fall semester. Motivational shots will be important to maintain this momentum throughout the spring semester. As we announced earlier this month, motivational photos are needed at the start of a new semester or as needed. We know that successful COVID cases will continue. But people who received the mRNA-boosted vaccine (Pfizer and Moderna) had more antibodies than those who hadn’t been boosted. An increase in these antibodies leads to more energy and a reduced risk of serious illness. So, our students, teachers and staff can return to our school. It means we can enjoy the traditions and activities we love. This means the university can continue to support the Central New York community in the fight against the spread of COVID. In the coming days and weeks, you’ll be hearing from university leaders with information and resources for getting back to school and starting the spring semester. Please visit Syracuse.edu/staysafe for the latest medical advisories. I wish you a wonderful holiday season. Sincerely, Chancellor Kent Sieverud
