On August 28, 1903, Kalamazoo was chosen as the site of a new school. Other locations include Allegan, Muskegon, Grand Rapids, Decatur, Three Oaks and Hastings. The first building, known as the Administration Building and now known as East Hall, was built in 1904.

East Campus is an original development that dates back to the founding of the University in 1903. It has many of the university’s historic buildings, including East Hall, West Hall, North Hall, Wallwood Hall, Spindler Hall, Vandercook Hall and The Little Theater. Many of these buildings are located on a hill overlooking Kalamazoo. Wallwood Hall, relocated in 1992, is home to the Graduate School, the Graduate School Advisory Committee, the Medieval Institute, the WMU Research Office, and the Office of Academic Affairs and Administration.
