Penn State has implemented a strategic recruiting freeze that will last until at least next summer, WPSU said in an email.

The contract freeze begins Monday and is not being announced by the university through mass communications or Penn State news, according to the email. Penn State President Nellie Bendapudi shared the decision Thursday with the President’s Council, Academic Leadership Council, Faculty Senate leadership, Personnel Advisory Council leadership and finance staff.

The university says it needs to save $250 million to balance the budget by the summer of 2025. This freeze is in addition to the previously announced budget cut of 3% in 2022-2023. for the financial year.
“The university’s current financial situation has been driven by a variety of factors, including significant inflation, flat state funding for the third year in a row, a tuition freeze for three of the past four years, and enrollment and revenue pressures caused at least in part by the pandemic,” according to the email.
The hiring freeze includes both new positions and vacancies not yet offered. This does not include graduate assistantships or positions funded through external grants or research contracts.

Some positions deemed critical by management will be filled. These include jobs that “are necessary for safety, student success, compliance, or demonstrate a financial return on investment.”

The start times and broadcast networks for several games in the first leg of Penn State’s 2022 schedule have been revealed.
The Nittany Lions will open their season with an 8 p.m. Start with Purdue on Thursday, September 1st. The game will be televised by FOX.

Next week, Penn State plays its home game at noon against Ohio State, which will be televised by ABC.
On the road in Week 3, the Blue and White will host Auburn at Jordan Hare Stadium at 3:30 p.m. on CBS.

No dramatic changes have been reported yet. Of course, that could all change by 2024. At least departmental reorganization is expected to be announced at a later date. Big Ten officials could eliminate the division all together or divide their 16 teams into “places” based on geography and to help maintain the rivalry.
It will still open non-conference games at home against West Virginia (Sept. 2) and FCS Delaware (Sept. 9) before traveling to Illinois.
That means the Lions will open their Big Ten schedule on the road for the eighth straight season and 13 of the last 14. Head coach James Franklin and new athletic director Pat Kraft expressed frustration at the strange and inexplicable trend.

Now, for the next season, only the order of some opponents has changed. For example, the Lions’ home game against Iowa was moved from Oct. 28 to Sept. 23.
Penn State’s bye week will now be Oct. 7 — a week later than originally planned. It will also end its season with Michigan State visiting instead of Maryland.

This research appears to be the next step in the development of the desktop version, which was originally expected to be released in the spring of 2020. According to the Penn State Go website, a desktop version will still be available soon
“As Penn State Go continues to evolve and improve based on student feedback, the Penn State Go Desktop experience is being developed to bring additional key features students need into one convenient online location,” the statement said. “Because mobile and desktop experiences can differ, we’re asking for student input to help us understand what features you’d like to see in the Penn State Go Desktop Experience.”
Costs Aid At Penn State
The open survey showed a prototype of the desktop version and asked simple questions about its design and potential features. Two different survey links were available, one for University Park and Commonwealth Campus students and one for World Campus students.
Penn State Go launched on mobile in January. The app streamlines various student resources including LionPATH, Canvas and Office 365 in one place. It recently expanded to Commonwealth campuses in May, but the desktop version has not yet been released for students.
Since most students don’t look at Canvas during the summer, it’s hard to imagine that the survey would have gotten the most statistically significant responses if that were the only medium through which it was distributed. If you’re interested in the desktop version of Penn State Go, it might be worth logging into Canvas or clicking the links above to provide feedback.
