Let’s take a look at some of the changes we would like to see.
Nascar To Race On Lake Shore Drive And Michigan Avenue In Chicago In 2023
NASCAR as an organization has made it very clear that reaching new markets and traveling to more places to reach new fans has been a key strategy in formulating its schedules year after year over the last half decade.
New songs in new states and familiar songs from yesteryear have become part of the premiere schedule in recent seasons, and with preparations for 2023 about to begin, fans are already wondering “what’s next?”
Last year we created a mock-up schedule for 2022. This article will look at the 2023 Cup schedule created by

The mock-up schedule features several new dates and new features, as well as some returning ideas from past years.
The season would resume at the Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum with the Busch Light Clash for the Daytona Speedweeks. The Daytona 500 would officially begin the 2023 season on President’s Day weekend, the week after Super Bowl LVII.
The first major change in the schedule would take place directly after the Daytona 500. The West Coast sweep would be moved to two weeks to give teams more time before heading west.

Texas Motor Speedway and World Wide Technology Raceway at Gateway would fill the gap. If the teams roll on the West Coast swing, it would include the series’ only trip to Phoenix Raceway, the first of two trips to Las Vegas Motor Speedway and a trip to Sonoma Raceway when the grass is still green, which NASCAR has rarely seen.
The teams would return from the west coast with a day of racing on the concrete surface of Bristol Motor Speedway. The dirt race would be removed from the schedule completely, and would be followed by the Easter off-weekend for the series. After that, Martinsville Speedway would host the first night race of the season.
About a month after the first shooting on Saturday night, there will be a second one. This one would be at Richmond Raceway, which would lose its second meeting later in the season.
Nascar Cup Series 2023 Driver Line Up: Which Teams Will Drivers Race For?
The beginning of the summer would look very different from previous years. Races at New Hampshire Motor Speedway, Auto Club Speedway, Atlanta Motor Speedway and Michigan International Speedway would begin the summer.
The first of two races at Auto Club Speedway, as well as the only race at Atlanta Motor Speedway on the schedule, would be night races. Atlanta Motor Speedway would use the same aero package from the 2022 spring race weekend, so with the loss of the race date, the number of races in the package would be reduced from six to five for the year.
Mid-to-late summer would feature well-known tracks such as Road America and Watkins Glen International, plus a night race at Kansas Speedway, but two former tracks would also return.
Road America Won’t Be On The Cup Schedule In 2023.
Chicagoland Speedway would receive a race date to meet fan calls for the track to return to a string of great races before losing its races during the 2020 COVID-19 outbreak.
Additionally, fans will be able to witness a historic doubleheader weekend at Indianapolis Motor Speedway, with a Grand Prix race on Saturday followed by the return of the Brickyard 400 on the 2.5-mile straight on Sunday.
Holding two races in one weekend would not only draw attention to the sport at one of the most famous racetracks in the world, but also give the teams an extra week of rest in the season, which would happen just before the double headers.
Updated Printable Schedule, As Promised
After the regular season finale at Daytona International Speedway, the All-Star Race, normally held in May or June, would be moved to the last weekend in August and would break up the regular season and playoffs.
This change will be made to try to showcase the talent of the All-Stars who will compete for the championship over the next 10 weeks. Ideally, the position would rotate from year to year.
The playoffs will also see some adjustments. In the first round of the playoffs, Dover Motor Speedway would once again win a playoff race. Homestead-Miami Speedway would be moved in a few weeks to make room for the sport to make one final trip west to open the Round of 16 with races at Auto Club Speedway and Las Vegas Motor Speedway.
Nascar Xfinity Series
The championship will also be held for the first time at Nashville Superspeedway. This would allow for a quick transition to the awards ceremony which will also be held in Nashville, Tennessee.
Perhaps the most remarkable thing about this scheme is not the returning tracks, but the missing track. A month ago, Speedway Motorsports, Inc. (SMI) has announced that racing will return to North Wilkesboro Speedway later this year, and the track will host both asphalt and dirt races before undergoing an overhaul in 2023.
SMI president Marcus Smith has already shot down hopes that the major NASCAR series will return to the 0.625-mile oval next year, stating that the earliest possible year for that to happen would be 2024, likely with the truck series.
