Manipal Institute of Technology, because of its reputation for academic excellence, aims to turn its students into professionals who can stop their careers. The academic system in Manipal follows a system of continuous evaluation of students every semester. Here is a complete list of everything you need to know about studying in Manipal.
The first year is common to all students, and the whole cycle is divided into two cycles, which are Physics and Chemistry cycles. Students studying in the Physics cycle in the first semester will be transferred to the Chemistry cycle in the second semester, and vice versa. During the second semester, students take courses in each engineering department, reviewing the same concepts expanded in the eleventh and twelfth grades. The final list of first year courses can be found here. The scholarship is renewed every four years. The last update was in 2018. The courses for each category are listed below:
Engineering Mathematics I and II and Engineering Graphics Lab I and II are taught in both semesters. All labs except the Engineering Graphics lab (dual credit) are for one credit. Communication technology in English and Environmental Studies also include two credits each, including a laboratory, and limit Engineering Mathematics (four credits), three of the courses on to leave Environmental and communication skills are taught in English classes as a three-hour weekly lab and one-hour classes, with lab grades and feedback included. There are three hours in each laboratory, and in terms of explanations, the hours are equal to one credit. The number of credits is directly related to the weightage of the course in the calculation of the GPA.

In addition to these courses, a new course called Creativity, Problem Solving and Innovation (CPI) was introduced in the first semester, which aims to develop critical thinking and problem solving among students . It does not take age weighting into account in calculating GPA.
The work done in both seasons is more or less. The Chemistry track is very theory based and allows students to refer back to subjects such as Biology and EVS. The Physics track is more detailed and requires a higher level of problem solving, while the Chemistry track is more theoretical, with the exception of PSUC.
With basic knowledge of each engineering department, students, at the end of their first year, get the option to change their department based on their CGPA and the number of seats in the department they want to move to. Each part of the first year includes students from different departments rather than dividing departments. Students from CSE, IT, CCE, EEE, EnI, Biomedical and Chemical start with Chemistry cycle, while ECE, Mechanical, Mechatronics, Automobile, Aeronautical, IP, Industrial Technology, Civil, and Biotechnology start with Chemistry circle. The circle you start depends on your section before the slide goes in.
