Orthodox Easter, also called Easter and Resurrection Sunday, is the oldest and most important holiday in the Eastern Christian tradition, celebrating the resurrection (rising from the grave) of Jesus Christ after his crucifixion and death. His resurrection is the foundation of the Christian faith because it proves that Jesus is the Son of God and symbolizes victory over death.
The End Times
For many years, its date has differed from the date of Easter in Western Christianity (Catholic and Protestant Easter) and is usually a week, but sometimes four or five weeks later. However, in some years, the Orthodox Easter coincides with the Western one, and these two holidays fall on the same day.
In Western Christianity, the date of Easter is based on the Gregorian calendar and can fall anywhere from March 22 to April 25. This leads to a possible date of April 4th to May 8th. However, the Western and Eastern churches agree that Easter should be celebrated on the first Sunday after the first full moon after the Fall, but always after Easter.
In some cases, the strategy is starting to announce a final and unified date for Easter (probably the second or third Sunday in April), but there is no concrete plan for this at this time.

Holidays And Observances In Australia In 2023
Lent is an annual Christian holiday that precedes Easter. The dates of Great Lent are determined by the date of Easter, which is a movable holiday, that is, it falls on a different day every year. Lent begins on Ash Wednesday and is observed (although not his liturgical season, as Sundays are not fast days so they don’t count – see below) for 40 days, reflecting the 40 days Jesus had already fasted in the desert before the beginning of his ministry. This can also be seen in the depiction of the 40 hours Jesus spent in the tomb before his resurrection.
Lent is a time of penance, involving the dual discipline of abstinence and fasting. During Lent, many Christians decide to fast for a while or give up certain foods, habits, or healthy things — for example, meat, cakes and sweets, alcohol, tobacco — (the money saved is often donated to charity). This is done both as a penance and as a spiritual tool to prepare the body and “sharpen the spirit” for prayer, meditation and reflection in preparation for the Passover celebration.
Great Lent lasts 40 days, the first day is always Wednesday (the day after Shrovetide). However, there is often confusion as to when Lent ends! This is mainly due to the fact that there are always 46 days between Easter Wednesday and Easter Sunday, and partly due to the confusion between the season of Lent and the liturgical season or season of Lent.

Lent (which most people think of as “Great Lent”) begins on Ash Wednesday and ends on Holy Saturday (not to be confused with Easter Saturday,
Easter). This period is 46 days, but the six Sundays of the season are not Lent (Sundays are weekends according to the Christian calendar), so they do not count towards the 40 days of Lent.
The liturgical season of Lent also begins on Ash Wednesday, but ends on the evening of Maundy Thursday. In addition, Palm Sunday (or the day before Palm Sunday) is sometimes considered the last day of Lent. This is not true and is based on a misunderstanding of the liturgy of Great Lent and Holy Week. They are not alone, and Lent actually continues during Holy Week (see above), meaning that the liturgical period of Lent ends on Maundy Thursday.

The purple color is closely associated with Great Lent – red church vestments (altar vestments and liturgical vestments of priests) are used today. Purple has two symbols: it is the traditional color of mourning (commemorating the death of Jesus) and it symbolizes the kingdom (celebrating the coming of Christ as Lord).
In Eastern Orthodox Christianity, Great Lent is called “The Great Lent” and is the most important fasting period of the year, which prepares for the celebration of the great day, Easter (Orthodox Easter Sunday). As in Western Christianity, the period of Lent varies in dates from year to year, with the dates determined by the date of Easter, which is a movable holiday. Great Lent begins on Clean Monday (the beginning of the 7th week before Easter) and lasts 40 days (including Sunday) until Lazarus Saturday (the day before Palm Sunday). Fasting lasts until Easter morning.
