Canadian Church Calendar 2023
Canon Tom Carman prepared the liturgical calendar for this year based on the ACNA conference. It provides the day of the year of the church, liturgical liturgy, readings, collection and proper introduction for each Sunday and major holy days. In addition, it has created a digital calendar that can be added as a subscription or import to most calendar applications for smartphones, tablets and computers.
**Note: The preferred method of using the ACNA Liturgical Calendar on your electronic devices is to “subscribe” to it in your calendar application. This subscription is completely free. But it is important that you read the instructions below to subscribe to the calendar, not just enter it.**
The good news this year is that if you subscribed to the ACNA liturgical calendar last year, you don’t need to do anything else. Next year’s information has been added to your subscription and should appear on your device when you update your calendar app. Next year you will find the same thing. Your subscription will automatically renew with next year’s information.

Please note that it is recommended to create a new calendar first and import the calendar file into it. This way, you can separate the calendar from all your other events. This also allows to give the liturgical calendar a unique color for easy identification.

Also, please note that if you import instead of subscribing, you will have to do it again every year. Unlike subscriptions, there is no way to send updates when importing a static file. “This calendar preserves the time to remember the History of God’s salvation. The stories of God penetrate our darkness. Stories of God’s work in our lives.”
Time It’s time to get up and go to bed. Time for a sporting event. Exam time. Time to start the school year. It’s time to say goodbye to the old year and hello to the new one.
We hold all the time. But not all are the same. Muslims have a special calendar based on the lunar month; Another Jewish calendar – lunisolar with a month added every year or two so that the months coincide with the changing position of the sun.

Christians also have a calendar – a liturgical calendar, a sacred and holy calendar of seven seasons – Advent, Christmas, Epiphany, Lent, Easter and Pentecost. This calendar keeps time to remember God’s saving history. God’s stories penetrate our darkness. Stories about God’s work in our lives. It is our turning away from God and God’s sacrifice in Jesus that restores us to perfection. Stories that motivate us to share the good news of Christ with the world.
Each season has its own colors, which often mark prominently with the decorations of the church – the front of the altar; the chasub of one who celebrates the Eucharist; the thieves wore the clothes of the priests around their necks; banners that we dealt with in the church.
Blue or purple for Advent reminds us that we are waiting for royalty – our King Christ. It also reminds us that Advent is a time to prepare to receive our King, seeing the ways in which our lives are full of darkness and ways to return to God’s loving presence.
The Liturgical Year Explained (plus Free Printable Calendar!)
Green during the Epiphany reminds us that when we meet Jesus in the Gospel, we grow in Christ and hear the call to spread the Word of God in the world.
Purple for Lent, as in Advent, is the color of repentance as we take stock of our lives and look for ways to return to God.
White is the color of Easter celebration, when we know that Christ is risen. The 50 days of Easter are a time of great joy.
Feast Of The Annunciation
Red for Pentecost reminds us that God has given us the Holy Spirit. We are ready to go out into the world to share what we have seen.
The green for the Sunday after Pentecost is the longest season. Green reminds us that it is time to grow in Christ – to do the hard work of following Jesus.
But where do we tell people the meaning of these colors? Where do we put the calendar for people who want to know what time it is? We know what November means. Do we know what Advent means? Can we visualize the cycles of our liturgical life and mark the time each year as we follow the life of Jesus? The Church gives us that calendar visible on the liturgical wheel – a circular calendar with the days of the year that take us through the seasons.
