by Ku Leuven Academic Calendar 2023 23 – The CILE 2022 summer program will focus on questions related to key ethical issues relevant to the field of sport studies. This topic is only relevant to Qatar due to the 2022 World Cup, but sports and physical activities are mandated or highly encouraged in most countries throughout children’s schooling. In fact, in ancient Greek philosophy, Plato and Aristotle advocated sports as the basis of education. Here thoughts are always the link between body and mind to achieve harmony. Today, not only is a large portion of the population involved in some sporting activity, amateur and professional sports have large audience followings and are big businesses. As an academic field, sport philosophy has only been developed since the 1970s. Recent controversies in professional sports have sparked widespread interest in sports ethics. This includes the use of performance-enhancing drugs (cheating ethics); the ethics of gender segregation and questions of gender categorization arising from trans and intersex contestants; The difference between “disabled” and “handicapped” sports. There are also ethics related to business and sports sponsorship; race and discrimination in sport; Competition and welfare policies; Sports Politics and Culture; and sports bioethics, raising gender and gender issues. Sports are games that define objectives and clear rules on how to achieve those goals. But there are also behavioral conventions that make judgments about players that are “sportsmanship” or “good athletes” or “bad athletes.” Therefore, all sports have an ethical dimension. There are issues of justice and honor in winning and losing. In addition to the moral, social and economic importance of sports, there is a spiritual dimension that does not attract academic attention but will be addressed in this program. The CILE Summer School presents some of these ethically important issues as subtopics within the broader topic of sport ethics and presents recommendations for further research and analysis.
Islamic ethics is one of the fastest growing fields of study with promising growth potential in academic research and high appeal among the public. The Center for Research in Islamic Law and Ethics (CILE) has contributed to this emerging field in many ways. Besides organizing international conferences and research seminars, CILE has contributed to the field through pioneering educational initiatives. In association with renowned publisher Brill, CILE established a book series called Journal of Islamic Ethics and Studies in Islamic Ethics. In addition, the first of its kind M.A. program “Applied Islamic Ethics” was inaugurated this academic year (2019-2020) at Hamad Bin Khalifa University’s College of Islamic Studies, affiliated to CILE. This program will discuss how Islam, as a world religion with a rich moral tradition, engages and contributes to global moral discourse. Its strong interdisciplinary character combines deep knowledge of theoretical and applied ethics rooted in the Islamic ethical tradition.

This school is a continuation of CILE’s efforts to critically examine ethical issues emerging from cutting-edge thinking in various applied fields of inquiry. Following CILE standard practice, sports ethics are approached from an interdisciplinary perspective in this school. Therefore, the field of sports science will be introduced in a way that is accessible to the general public. Attention will also be given to international debates on sports ethics and parallel debates and experiences in the Islamic world. Discussions throughout the program examine relevant Islamic and non-Islamic ethical perspectives. Where possible, both speakers and students will explore how scholarly disciplines rooted in the Islamic tradition (eg, theology, philosophy and Islamic law) can contribute to the discourse on sports ethics.
History And Medieval Studies
Like previous CILE events, CILE collaborates with prestigious national and international institutions, this edition of the CILE Winter School is organized in collaboration with the Center for Islamic Studies, Culture and Society and World Innovation at the University of Leuven, Belgium. Summit for Health (WISH), an initiative of the Qatar Foundation.
In order to adequately cover the various aspects and dimensions of sport ethics, the speakers at this summer school come from different specialties and have different research interests.
Accepted applicants will be provided with a list of reading assignments. Each successful applicant is expected to be well prepared for summer school by going through these readings in advance and engaging in interactive discussions throughout the school program.

This exchange program is College of Engineering (ENGR) specific, meaning only undergraduate ENGR students can participate. Melbourne and Pitt are members of Global E3, an exchange consortium of 60 engineering schools around the world. The consortium is managed by the Institute of International Education (IIE).

Exchange university transcripts usually do not arrive from the exchange university until 3 to 4 months after the end of the exchange period. Therefore, Pitt students should consider how this may affect their ability to graduate, especially when transferring during one’s senior year. Another consideration is how this may affect your financial aid package since S/NC grades are not posted until transcripts are received.
Pitt students participating in the exchange program pay regular Pitt tuition and fees depending on their in-state or out-of-state residency status. Apart from academic administration fees, it also covers all mandatory fees like student activities fees, wellness fees, computing and network services fees and safety, security and transportation fees.
